QUESTION:
What do you think of this lycra full body sheet?
http://www.ss4horses.com/product/solid_full_body.htmlI was looking into buying my horse a slinkie for shows when I saw this, and I was wondering if I could use this instead of a blanket AND slinkie. What is your opinion on this type of body sheet? Any experiences? Thanks
I would only use it the night before a show... would it be ok? Even if I wouldn't have a heavier blanket on top?-
ANSWER:
I had one of these for my horse. Kept him lovely and warm and smoothed the coat out before a show. Mine had a belly band on it. Couple of things.... If its to small or tight it can leave embedded lines in the horses coat where the stitching is which can be hard to get out. If its to small the hood can pull back into the horses eyes. Some horses are not keen on the all in one thing and because the last point it comes off is over the head it can be alot of lycra which can get a bit tangled on the exit.I found mine pretty good except for the whole embedded line thing. Def nice and warm
AGREE with answer above no good for out in the paddock. Use good layers of rugs that fit well. the bodysuits are really a night before the show thing only
cheers

QUESTION:
What shirt style would pregnant western pleasure ladies prefer? Loose or body hugging?
I haven't seen any show outfits for expectant moms and have someone who needs an outfit this year. I am wondering what the moms of today would be comfortable doing showmanship or other classes in ? The Lycra body hugging jacket or something that hangs away from the belly. And would you like the bodice fitted with a tie under the boobs or elastic?
I am open to suggestions!
Thank you everyone! All of your insights were helpful!-
ANSWER:
I would think for Western a fitted stretch shirt with the jacket buttoned from top to just under the boobs like an empire waist. That way it could hang as closed as possible but open and shift as needed.

QUESTION:
Full body lycra sheets?
What is your experience with them? And where can I buy one online for cheap? (Besides ebay and horseloverz.com)Thanks
-
ANSWER:
Personally, I prefer the hood and then a light blanket for the rest of the body. The full body one (in my experience) isn't worth all the money. but on the other hand I could have just gotten a bad one. (Not likely). The reason I say this is becuase It tends to be rather tight and squeezes on the horses back legs (it is stretchy, but the fabric is supposed to be tight so it stays on) and it chafed my horses back end and her legs. It also rubbed some of her tail down.
If you still want it, here is a site that has one on sale.http://www.equinecloset.com/slsofubo.html
If you would rather like the hood one, this is the one I got and LOVE it.

QUESTION:
What's nylon spandex Lycra and microfiber where u see them on ballet leotards and tights material tag?
I'm always wondering what are nylon spandex Lycra and microfiber? What are the differences between each one and what do they do? I am doing ballet and I have a lot of leotards and tights. However some of them have different materials as I found on the tag. What kind of material is best for leotards and tights? How do they feel on the body? And how to take care of different kinds of leotards and tights?-
ANSWER:
Nylon is a synthetic fiber commonly used in textiles. It is a preferred material because it is relatively strong for its weight, is easy to dye, and is fairly resilient. It does not absorb moisture well, which can be a benefit or a problem, depending on the application.Spandex is a synthetic fiber that is also used in textiles. It is elastic, holds its shape well, and doesn't sag. Spandex added to fabrics gives them their characteristic stretch and ease of movement.
Lycra is just a specific brand name of spandex. Just like how "cola" is a generic term, whereas "Coke" is a brand name.
Microfiber as it pertains to your question is any textile consisting of microfiber yarns; microfiber yarns are threads whose individual filaments are less than 1 denier. The net result is a very fine fabric with a very tight weave and smooth finish. Microfiber fabrics can be made from a blend of any number of materials, including nylon and spandex. Despite nylon having poor moisture absorption properties, the particular weave of a microfiber fabric can often make up for this by physically wicking moisture away from the body.
For your leotards and tights, the most common blends are nylon and spandex. There are also cotton blends, but nylon blends tend to move and hold their color better. If you are dancing, I recommend nylon over cotton because cotton will absorb moisture and will feel like a sponge over time. If you can find microfiber, it is even better because of the overall improvement in comfort, as well as the benefit of the wicking effect.
As for caring for your garments, separate them by colors and hand wash them in cold water and Woolite. Be sure to read the care labels on the garments and bottle of Woolite.

QUESTION:
(COSPLAY) What kind of paint should I use on Lycra/spandex?
I am doing a cosplay (costume play) of a game character and for this costume I am wearing a full body suite made of lycra/spandex. It is skin tight and I wanted to paint it with a flexible paint. Someone told me to use Latex paint. Would that work? Is it toxic?I need a paint that will be flexible enough to work with the material but wont fade, flake, or dry out for a while.
HELP! what should I use?!.... and how do I paint it on?! (spray gun? brush? XD)
I cannot stress enough how badly I need a paint that will LAST and not FLAKE if I sit down in the outfit or run around in it.UBER FLEXIBLE AND LONG-LASTING... maybe even machine washable?
THE COSTUME IS A LYCRA/SPANDEX BODY SUIT that I am looking to PAINT OVER.Not on my skin
ON THE COSTUME.
stretchy fabric.
needs strechy paint >.>-
ANSWER:
If it's lycra/spandex then it's probably covered with a fabric. You can get regular fabric paint at most hobby stores or fabric stores. I have also used acrylic paint on clothes that stretch. It won't flake, but it may come off after a lot of use. In that case you can always go over it again as needed. Good luck and break a leg with the play!!!

QUESTION:
Do you think Figure skating is getting too glitzy/flashy to be called a sport?
Figure skating in the early days, they dress pretty much like gymnast. Simple.
Now even the men are getting more glitzy wearing frilly, sequenced lycra body suit. Do you think that's wrong?
Do you think figure skating is getting too flashy with the dress code? Should people appreciate the atheleticism or the flashy attire?
Explain this to me, why is say ballet, hip-hop, salsa dancing not considered a sport and figure skating is?-
ANSWER:
No, we work extremely hard in figure skating. It is grueling, agonizing work to do one jump or spin perfectly. We face judges and audiences, being judged harshly. I think dance isn’t considered a sport because it has its own category, DANCING. I take ballet for coordination to go along with figure skating as well as hip-hop just for fun. In ballet they don’t dress up in a body suit and glitter? In salsa they don’t wear frilly dresses? In hip hop they don’t wear costumes? Even in other sports they have uniforms. Figure skating is an elegant sport so it has elaborate costumes and make up.

QUESTION:
How do I take a Lycra bodysuit pattern and adjust it to fit with nonstretch fabric?
I need to make a bodysuit out of lace fabric and the only pattern I could find that was a good fit was a pattern typically used for full body Lycra body suits. Is there a way to alter my sizes to where it will fit me without having to stretch? All of my measurements come out to be a size small, so would sewing it to fit the measurements of larger size be the right thing to do? And if so, how much larger? The pattern calls for 75% stretch fabric, if that helps any.-
ANSWER:
Don't try it unless you're willing to draft the whole thing over again from scratch. You might have gotten away with it with lace and a pattern calling for 10% stretch, but not 75%. The pattern shapes used for stretch knits, particularly this sort of knit, look really different from the ones used for wovens.Have you looked at KwikSew and Stretch and Sew patterns?

QUESTION:
Is wearing a full body suit in public illegal?
I'm getting a full body lycra suit (the one that is super tight, fun colors, covers face. Silly things, don't ask why I am). I'm concerned whether or not it would be illegal to wear one in public since it covers the face. I'm in Virginia and the only thing I could find was this
"VIRGINIA Section 18.2-422:
Prohibition of wearing of masks in certain places; exceptions.
It shall be unlawful for any person over sixteen years of age while wearing any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth without first having obtained from the owner or tenant thereof consent to do so in writing.
Exceptions
However, the provisions of this section shall not apply to persons (i) wearing traditional holiday costumes; (ii) engaged in professions, trades, employment or other activities and wearing protective masks which are deemed necessary for the physical safety of the wearer or other persons; (iii) engaged in any bona fide theatrical production or masquerade ball; or (iv) wearing a mask, hood or other device for bona fide medical reasons upon the advice of a licensed physician or osteopath and carrying on his person an affidavit from the physician or osteopath specifying the medical necessity for wearing the device and the date on which the wearing of the device will no longer be necessary and providing a brief description of the device. The violation of any provisions of this section shall constitute a Class 6 felony."That was from 2007, so I'm sure it's changed.
I am 16, and I'm just doing it for fun. So, any help would be appreciated. I'd be wearing it to like Target/Walmart and the mall. Those sort of places.
Thhhhhhhhhhhanks!
Thanks so far, I think. Again, that was from like 5 years ago, so things must have changed. I am just wondering, I doubt I will go out and do it.And this is the suit, if anyone was wondering.

QUESTION:
Do Lycra spandex bodysuits rip easily?
I am wanting to buy a Lycra spandex body suit like this http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/3/8/6/6/5/2/webimg/397504546_tp.jpgI am curious if anyone knows if you alter them yourself, ie cut pieces out, if because of its stretchy quality, does it run/rip/fray? I'm scared to buy and cut it and then it falls apart.
Since one reply says it does run, is there anyway to prevent it from doing so? Like hemming sections? I basically want to be able to cut it like this and not have it rip apart:
http://media.animegalleries.net/albums/userpics/52342/Cheza_6.JPG?=123-
ANSWER:
It probably will run after a while but shouldn't do it straight away depending on how often you wear it? I have cut lycra leggings at the bottom to shorten them and they usually last a really long time without any problems. If you are cutting from the middle, then yes you should try and hem around the cut - should work well. Love the zentai suit as it is in the pic though
why would you!

QUESTION:
Why don't girls/women like guys in lycra swimsuits like Speedos when the guy who is wearing them feels comfort
I ask this question, because I am one such guy and from what I have seen this Summer in Melboune, the guys wearing Speedos do have decent bodies like myself. It is much better to see than women in tasteless swimsuits that are dated and ugly and look hideous in bathers anyway.-
ANSWER:
it's just cultural conditioning. Girls in America are being told that they are ugly. In other countries, that's the norm... They are not any uglier than trunks, really. Wear what you feel comfortable. Speedos are certainly much better for swimming as they do not interfere with your movements. But why ripping on women in swimsuits? These are swim suits, for swimming - you want pretty go to a black tie event or something. I don't think it's right to rip on other people to advance your own case.

can i ride my horse in a full body slinky?
for reining freestyle costume...i was wondering if i could ride my horse in a full body slinky like this one ( http://www.horseloverz.com/STOCK-LOT-CLOSEOUT-Lycra-Full-Sheet-pr-347959.html ) with a regular neck slinky under it?i've ridden him at show warmups in a regular neck slinky, but im not sure about one that goes under the entire saddle and everything! thanks in advance
-
ANSWER:
for a reining pattern it would be fine. they are not that long and lots of people do it for freestyle. My trainer did it at Appaloosa Worlds three years ago in a full body flame slinky. They are stretchy enough to to restrict movement, but make sure you do check for little rubs after your class. Its not going to hurt him, again, reining patterns are not that long that the slinky would cause major rubs.

QUESTION:
Yes or no? Should men wear lycra spandex shorts at the gym?
The question - do you think it's okay for a straight guy to wear black lycra spandex shorts when working out at the gym?Me, I'm 6'5", 240 lbs, and stay in real good shape. Not white trash- no mullets or anything. I shave my head.
A plain pair of black lycra shorts feel and function better to me.
I like complete freedom of movement in a workout (especially on cardio and lower body workouts) and don't like the feeling or look of wearing baggy shorts over the spandex.I wear a normal length t-shirt or sweat shirt on top - so I don't think my parts are visibly flopping all about if that thought makes you cringe.
So, is it okay for a guy to workout in lycra spandex shorts or not?
If you like the idea - why?
If you hate it - why?Do you initially assume a guy is gay because of it?
Thanks...

QUESTION:
Has anyone found that synthetic shirts tend to smell worse after exercise?
I have a few polyester long underwear shirts, a nike lycra-type shirt, and a ex-officio nylon undershirt and the pits tend to smell after I exercise in them. I never have this problem with cotton; the shirts smell a bit like sweat, but not body odor. I rarely get BO (especially when I wear cotton), but it seems to appear when I wear synthetic shirts. Has anyone else experienced this?-
ANSWER:
Yeah. It sucks because they stain less than cotton and don't wrinkle. It's a definate conundrum.

well...if you show him, even though you don't want to wash him, you could wash his legs with Sullivan’s Bright Lights Whitening Shampoo™...i have had white cattle in the past and they love to lay in their own feces so right before fair like a week every other day i wash them with Sullivan’s Bright Lights Whitening Shampoo™ and it's like a non-toxic bleach specially made for livestock including horses...or on show days you could put baby powder on his legs and rub it in...otherwise i would recommend only turning him out when it's not muddy or only in places covered in grass (Bright Lights is also farely inexpensive!) you could also use the bright lights all over his body and it would intensify his grey spotshere's the link to get the Sullivan’s Bright Lights Whitening Shampoo™

QUESTION:
Why are people afraid of lycra/spandex?
I am often confused at why people, especially on this site are so against people wearing lycra and spandex. Yes I understand that your eyes are having to see outline of certain areas, but what is stopping you from averting your eyes else where?I mean if you are wearing spandex and a longer shirt over the top to cover bits up, then what is the problem seriously? Why can't some let others dress the way they want if they are not breaking any written law?
Before you say it, I am not gay, nor am I an exhibitionist or a pervert. But I refuse to believe wearing spandex makes a person gay, or a slut if their outfit is worn appropriately. Perhaps noted as inappropriate worn to certain occasions, but definitely not worthy of calling someone those names especially if they can pull that look of nicely and respectfully.
And with guys? Why is it wrong for guys to wear lycra in the gym if he has everything covered by a long shirt? A lot of male athletes, sports stars and celebrities wear lycra when working out for recovery benefits as well as comfort, so why is it considered by some as homosexual if in fact these people are not? It's proven amongst many that lycra stops chaffing, reduces muscle fatigue, controls core temperatures, wicks away sweat from the body to keep the body cooler and makes the worked muscles recover faster after a workout.
I know it feels a bit like wearing nothing at all, but that is the whole point of wearing lycra to the gym. To workout without restriction, to feel comfortable in your physical activity, etc.
And the ladies, we know ladies can get away with a lot more tighter clothing than men, but if a man was to wear skin tight clothing designed for a man to suit a purpose, and he was able to cover over portions of himself that may offend, is that considered offensive or worth making negative comment over?
So how come the neigh sayers are sooooo against lycra and spandex if a person looks good and is wearing it appropriately?

ANSWER:
I *LOVE* spandex, both wearing it and seeing females in them. You do not see people wear them at gyms anymore since they have gone out of fashion. Instead, men and women wear shorts or sweats.Yes, it is sad. There is nothing wrong with spandex/lycra and I think everyone with a nice body looks amazing in them.
But you can't fight the fashion trends.

ANSWER:
I am a girl and an athlete, specifically a runner. Runners (and bikers, I've noticed) often wear spandex/lycra beneath the shorts. I am not at all offended when I see guys wearing lycra, with or without shorts. Doesn't bother me at all. I wear spandex sometimes. Nobody complains about it to me so I guess there is a double standard there. On the other hand, I have seen a rather overweight woman wearing spandex about three sizes too short - without underwear. Now that was completely inappropriate.
Otherwise, I think wearing lycra/spandex is perfectly logical and practical. It does have all the benefits that you listed above. People are just rude and they don't understand the reasons behind wearing lycra/spandex, I guess.

I appreciate the comments peeps. But if someone was to wear lycra with intention of covering over certain areas, then why is still considered taboo, or unacceptable to some. I understand its not good if you are one of those who likes to show their bits and pieces off, Im talking more on the basis that others who wear it with some modesty involved are considered sluts or gay.-
ANSWER:
nothing's wrong with it. leggings w something flattering that covers ur butt are really cute. but absolutely no one looks good wearing tights as pants. when you put on a tiny, sheer pair of leggings and nothing covering your butt, they create cellulite looking globs even if you don't have them to begin with. not to mention it's basically walking around naked bc we can see everything there is to see. it's a fact that if you don't leave anything to the imagination, there's nothing to look forward to. the only time that it makes sense to have leggings or tights on w ur butt and front stuff on display is if ur in a dance class, yoga or other similar situation. otherwise, keep it to yourself.

ANSWER:
As you are probably aware, our society is revolved around the media, and often times our social behaviors reflect that of what we see on television. This is easily applied to your question. Men typically wear baggy clothing that is practically falling off their bodies because that, for whatever reason, is more masculine. Therefore, if they wear tight clothing they are seen as gay or queer. However, it is acceptable for woman to wear the tight revealing clothing because that is exactly what is shown in our media: woman dressing revealingly and getting men notice them as a result.Hopefully this answers your question in a unbiased manner (:
