Making their television debut in 2000 for Granada television and being thrown into the limelight a year later when their popular What Not To Wear Show was broadcast for the first time in 2001, Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine have become household names up and down the country.
Helping thousands of women to feel better about themselves (in excess of 5,000, according to an interview with Nicole O'Neill on 6 October 2007 on MSN) by understanding what women's clothes they should wear, they devised a list of 12 different body shapes, 8 more than the traditional apple, banana, pear and hourglass and published them in the Daily Mail newspaper in 2007.
According to the two fashion advisors, the 12 different female body shapes are as follows.
Apple. Starting off with a traditional body shape, Trinny and Susannah explain that the shape is generally round, with any excess weight being gained around the stomach area. The primary positive point of this body shape is the breasts and womens clothes should be purchased to highlight this area.
Hourglass. Big breasts are a plus for hourglass women, too, but they have a slimmer waist than the apple shape. The main problems are often under the hips and around the bum, as these areas tend to gain weight quickest.
Skittle. A longer version of the more traditional pear shape, a woman with a skittle body shape will have a long body, be slim on top and have large thighs.
Vase. Similar to a skittle in terms of the vase being a slight change to an already existing body shape, the vase is simply an elongated version of the hourglass. Not quite as large on the breasts or hips, they do not have as many curves in general, being slightly flatter in the areas where an hourglass is curvy.
Cornet. The cornet body shape is one that a lot of catwalk models posses and is, in essence, a very slim and athletic one. Curves are not prominent with a cornet body shape, but your slim legs and skinny waist are your assets.
Lollipop. With large breasts, slim arms and legs and a smooth stomach, the main problem with a lollipop shape is that as the frame is quite small, it is easy to look top heavy because of the large breasts. The traditional banana body shape is somewhere between this and the cornet shape.
Column. Tall and somewhat stocky are the characteristics here. Long arms, legs and torso are primary features, with the issue being that weight is distributed on your torso to make you look boyish.
Bell. Often the body shape of petite women, large bums with comfortable thighs and waist play the main role with a bell body shape, with most other parts of the body being slim.
Goblet. Broad shoulders and a large back are the key points with the goblet shape, which rest beautifully on very long, slim legs with perfect ankles.
Cello. Similar to both a goblet and a vase, a cello body possesses broad shoulders with large breasts, thighs and bum. They are not overly large, however and almost everything appears to be in proportion.
Pear. Another traditional body shape, the pear shape is often made up of a long, slim torso with shorter, larger legs. The whole upper body has very little problems, with the waist down causing the most issues.
Brick. This shape is one that most people who feel that they do not have a body shape actually have. Relatively boyish in its appearance, there are generally no major accentuations on the body and womens clothes should be purchased to help emphasize what curves are apparent.

Ladies weight tends to go onto their hips and bottom. Unfortunately you cant control where the weight goes! If you are not underweight then I wouldnt worry - just leave your body as it is.

And If I lift weights for my upper body it might just build muscle and maintain my top heavy figure. I know maybe im over thinking it but there could be a possibility. Can anyone pls help? Well I have a natural hour glass figure. I don't really do anything to maintain it. Maybe that's just how your body is suppose to be. Trying to lift weights is just gunna build muscle on your upper body. Maybe try strengthening and building your hip muscles. Try getting hold of foods with fats that target the hips or butt (look for a list of those types of foods online). But please be careful with that, you don't want to cause any health issues.

I would guess vase. The skittle looks a little bigger in the hips than you are with a bit smaller of a chest. Pear sort of the right shape, but much too exaggerated compared to your body shape. Vase looks most like you. You have a GREAT body by the way!

I've read it and found it very interesting. Basically their theory is that there are more shapes than just the hourglass, pear and athletic that we all know but that there are varients on these shapes. They have all been given an item that they are likened to for example, goblet, cone, hourglass, vase, pillar, apple, pear etc. There is a picture of a woman with each of these shapes in leggings and a vest top so you can compare yourself to their shape. Then it gives details of how to dress for this shape.I gives a good bit of detail on their website, the link for which I don't have at the moment but if you Google Trinny and Susannah you're sure to get it,
It's worth a look. I've finally worked out that I'm and hourglass which finally explains to me why I cannot carry off flat shoes!

Superskinny versus supersize tv programme....entertainment or voyeurism?
Whatever next? Worse than Trinny and Susannah making relatively ordinary people strip off and ridicule them in the changing rooms in front of the entire nation, we now have a so-called 'doctor' overseeing people at the extreme ends of the eating and body shape spectrum. These seemingly willing participants are not only made to strip off so the viewer can marvel at their skeletal or grossly obese frames, they are then exposed like animals in a zoo as we dissect their eating habits. They are made to swap diets. How bizarre.
A poor girl tonight, clearly with anorexia and a negative relationship with food was force fed 30 sausage rolls whereas the larger of the two had one fruit shortcake biscuit for lunch. I had a horrible feeling that I, like no doubt the rest of the viewing public, was glued to this programme for the wrong reasons. I felt like a voyeur seeing into the naked soul of these people, whose complex relationship with food is to be pitied, not glorified.
Overall, it was like watching the bearded lady at the circus, entertainment for its freak value, which left me feeling ashamed of myself for watching their suffering.-

im being bridesmaid in four weeks time and want to look slimmer?
well im a size 10 (UK) which i know isn't bad but my bum is dis-proportioned to the rest of my body ive tried squats and the lot and i can fell more muscle in my bum but i still have a fat buttocks!
i was going to get a pair of trinny and Susannah's shaping underwear but its too expensive, im a student, so really the dress is chiffon and can float over my bum easy enough, just what sort of briefs should i wear...i don't want a "knicker line"!
i walk everyday for 1/2 an hour and a 15 minute cycle, em have been on a low carb diet for the last six weeks, no bread, pasta, rice, crisps, chips, chocolate or sweets on top of the i play football for 1 and a half hours three times a week, but i do drink alot of coke zero!..thats my daily treat...i would have on average 2 cans a day, i drink alot of milk and i also would have icepops as a treat...should i be cutting these out?i do 40 squats a day and 15 back slaps and lift light weights for my shouldersand i do sit ups...its just everything i smell goes straight to my bum...i could drink more water, id probably drink about a pint and a half a day at the minute!

You'd have to lose a few. You can always gain it back.Cut your calories to about 1200, start going on fast 1/2 hour walks every day and KEEP UP the squats- 20 a day, go up by 2 each day.
You won't need fancy knickers either and you'll spend less money on food
